Audrey wants each piece to evoke something familiar within the human condition. She believes that it is the single moments in life that give us our sense of humanity, and not the big conclusions we come to as judicial answers to the question of success in our lives. For example, she could say that her inspiration is drawn from Mexican folk art, and big artists such as Frida Kahlo, Dali and Ego Schiele when in fact she is inspired by the sense of history traditional Mexican art gives her, the strength Frida Kahlo emotes through her paintings, the sheer beauty and use of colour by Dali and the blatant and fearless honesty in Schieles work. Breaking down these feelings in her work; history, strength, beauty and honesty are all parts of these single moments that we as humans can appreciate and relate to. Most of Audreys pieces are created several pieces at a time during different points in their development. She works mostly in oil on canvas and enjoys painting in a large scale using strong colours and shapes. With a strong affinity for black and the primary colours, her pieces appear oppulent and eye-catching. Within each piece you may see multiple elements and techniques. Fast, direct lines; explosions of colour; intricately laboured details or realism; even visual sarcasm. Audrey uses such a variety of techniques in order to express harmony without being pinned down to just one technique or just one feeling or just one genre. Gaining her first collector this past winter encouraged her to go part time with her job and to take on painting as her second job and top priority. Subsequently she found her first studio in December of 2007 and has taken on a new commitment and seriousness to her work as a painter. She continues to take on graphic and design opportunities while she establishes herself as a painter.
